Alien: Isolation
This just scrapes onto the bottom of my list because it is perfectly evokes the mood of one of my favorite movies. Sure its too long, and not all the design choices feel right, but it commits to an idea and feels like a game made by people with real reverence for the source material.

The Talos Principle
With a raft of fantastic designers behind it, The Talos Principle is stuffed full of ingenious puzzles, over wrought deities, and questions about what it means to be human. It is overserious, but sometimes that can just be fun.

This War of Mine
Harrowing, depressing, and down right dark, this war game sucks all the glamour out of conflict by placing you as a civilian caught between two faction. But for all of its art house sensibilities, there it is also a great stealth strategy game contained within..

P.T Demo
A demo? You could call it that, I call it a tight horror experience that takes risks, creates incredible tension, came out of nowhere, and was completely free! Who cares that Silent Hills will probably suck.
No 6
Dragon Age: Inquisition
It may be broken, have absolutely zero pacing, and my characters voice actor may have completely changed halfway through, but this deep and varied title it still managed to keep me coming back for its involved tale of political and religious intrigue.
No 5
The Evil Within
Many action games are compared to roller coasters as they take you from one adventure to the next - if that’s the case then The Evil Within is a ghost train that constantly keeps you moving from one scare to the next, a structure that stopped me ever surcoming to my usual horror fatigue.

Threes!
The first time you miss a bus or train stop and end up who-knows-where playing Threes! you know how deep you are in to this addictive, arithmetic tile puzzler.
No 3
Destiny
Its a horribly disappointing game that I curse every day for its lack of content… but once you have three fully level characters and are still coming back most days for the challenge missions, you have to concede that Bungie have done something right.

Dangan Ronpa
Graphic novel games are not everyones cup of tea, and this certainly takes its time to get going, but Dangan Ronpa is a perfectly twisted Japanese comic tale of death and high school.
No 1
Dark Souls 2
What can I say, a worthy successor to my favourite game of all time, plus wonderful DLC that perfectly continues the atmosphere soaked world.
